So, you’re looking for some headboards. But, where do you start? You could go to your local furniture store and pick up a set from the rack but that will cost you! Then, you could look online for ideas or take a look at what’s available in discount furniture stores. But, will it match with my existing bedroom decor? Hopefully, you’ve got your mind on the right headboard but if not, then here’s how you go about choosing the perfect headboard for your bedroom:
Generally, standard headboards range between forty-five to sixty inches wide. Ordinary full size queen headboards can be as much as three hundred inches wide. Extra wide queen headboards can actually be as much as double the width of your bed, even if you’re doing a full sized queen headboard wall! So, a good general rule of thumb to go by is to add about a third of the full size of your bed. That way, you end up with a headboard that covers the majority of the mattress and still leaves room to dress it up and give your room a touch of color!
Queen headboards can also have a sloped front panel to give more space behind the board. Some headboards even have an additional storage compartment, such as drawers, below the board. So, how much extra space can you really get out of a queen headboard? Keep in mind that it is generally the case that you get what you pay for so don’t skimp on quality just to save a few bucks. You’ll be much happier in the end with a well-crafted, sturdy headboard than you will be with one that is made with cheap material.
King size headboards are a little different. The most important aspect is the width of the headboard itself since the king size bed frames are generally two thousand eight hundred inches wide or more. That is considerably more than the customary four hundred to one thousand-inch sizes for queen beds.
Remember that even though the bed frame is larger than the headboard, that the headboard will usually extend across the entire length of the bed. So, keep in mind the size of the bed as well as the length of the headboard in order to determine the size headboard that you need. You should probably be able to find a double headboard at a decent price that fits into your budget. Be sure to look at the finish of the headboard in particular. Most come in cherry or mahogany, which both are very rich in color and tone and can blend in perfectly with any room in the house.
A double headboard on a full size bed can add height and width. It will also add a decorative touch to the room. Your bed frame will also thank you with added strength and durability. It is wise to replace your existing bed frame periodically for a better quality. If you are not changing out the full size bed frame, then make sure you purchase a headboard that will complement it.
