Should End Tables Be Higher Than The Couch?

Should end tables are lower than the couch? It’s a common question among many people who are thinking about redecorating their homes. And yes, you definitely want them to go along with your sofa. But just how high should an end table really be?

Well, like most things in life, it all depends. For instance, when it comes to couches, height is generally going to be your deciding factor. The standard height for end tables is usually around six or seven feet. And that’s fine. Most traditional settings where you have a sofa and a few chairs are not going to necessitate anything higher than that. If you’ve got more space, however, you might consider heights of around 10 or even twelve feet.

But should you be sitting right behind a couch, and you want a table, then you need to consider whether it should be one that is the same height as your couch. Most end tables that are standard height are actually pretty nice because they don’t stick out quite so far from the floor. They won’t be able to obstruct the flow of foot traffic between your two-year-old, two-inch puppy and his or her favorite toy, for example, but they will be able to stay out of the way if necessary.

When it comes to end tables that are higher than the average sofa, you have a couple of different options. The first is to either get really tall, hard-to-fit pieces that are going to stick out by about two inches, or get the shorter, soft models that will usually be between one and two inches thick. Both work well and are really easy to move if you have to. The standard height for most of these pieces is about three and a half inch thick, which is where most people would like them to be.

If you are in a one bedroom apartment or smaller space that needs more than a coffee table, then you definitely need end tables that are higher than the typical couch. You will want to be able to place the table in the center of the room where it will be most useful, as well as within easy reach of where you sit. Some tables are very adaptable and can be moved anywhere within a room. There are even a few that have the capability to be opened up to provide more room if needed. This means that not only do you have enough room on your bare floors for a coffee table, but you also have a place to put other furnishings.

You should definitely look at end tables that are higher than your typical sofa and couch. The added height allows you to have more furniture in the room and to also make a statement about the style of the home that you have. No one should be afraid of adding some extra height to their home, especially in an apartment where space is limited.
