I’m not a big fan of nightstands. I’ve always felt that they were over-sized and cumbersome, and for some reason women seem to love them more than men do. My first instinct was that it was a man’s thing, but when talking with a friend of mine, she explained that it’s not uncommon to see an older woman with a nightstand that’s taller than her bed. So I asked her why that was, and she told me that the style of bedroom furniture generally increases the feeling of space, and the nightstand is often right there at the foot of the bed to “free up” some of that space. What’s more, since many of us don’t have a lot of room in the hallway or the living room, a nightstand is really perfect for this area. So I asked her, why not have the nightstand is the same height as the bed?
First, I wanted to make sure that her answer was correct. Since we’re on a tight budget, this was a tough question to answer, but she assured me that it wasn’t the case. She had two choices: to have the nightstand is the same height as the bed itself, or to have the nightstand extend down past the bed, and have the posts extending to a slightly higher height than the bed. Both of these options would save quite a bit of money. I decided that since we were on a strict budget, that I’d go with option two, and I’d choose to have the nightstand extension extend a few inches past the bed, but not much more.
We finally got around to installing the nightstand, and I was thrilled! The set up was easy, and the nightstand was exactly where I needed it to be. It was a nice, tall set of shelves, and I couldn’t even tell that the nightstand extension wasn’t actually part of the bed, it was securely fastened to the underside of the bed.
I love the fact that now I have a taller bed frame, and I get plenty of head room as well. Having the extra height also means that I can lay in bed easily because my head is high enough. It also means that I don’t have to turn my neck all the way round to see the numbers on the clock, which is really important because I often type out the time when I’m up in the mornings.
This is such an easy solution to storage issues, and the style is so nice too. My room has a white nightstand, and the black one is pretty. It would look great in any room of the house. And my little girl is just plain nuts about the nightstand, she wants it for years. If I had a bigger bed, I could probably have a matching set up too.
I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a good way to organize their room without having to make a bunch of new furniture. It’s very simple and elegant, and the kids love it too. And if you are considering getting a new nightstand for your bed or bedroom, I would definitely consider this style and look for a larger bed frame to match.
