In the list below, we have researched and gathered 20 of the most essential gadgets and accessories that can be placed in the living room. Some are common things that most of us use, and others are unique ideas which you can acquire in order to satisfy your everyday needs.
1 – The television
One of the first things people tend to acquire for their new apartments is the television. The living room is the most common room of the home where we usually place the TV. The spot of preference is usually the middle of the room, in front of a big wall and onto a TV stand, such as the Ameriwood Home Carson TV Stand.
If you are a large-TV junkie like me, you should look for a high quality 50 inch television like the Sony KD50X690E 50-Inch. On the other hand, if you like smaller TV screens, the Samsung UN32J5003 32-Inch is a great TV model with a high resolution picture quality.
2 – TV stand
Like mentioned above, you need a piece of furniture to place your television. A nice TV stand is the ideal solution, and fortunately there is a great amount of different and unique models to choose from. One of my personal favorites is the WE Furniture 58″ Wood TV Stand.
If you like even more minimal designs, I have the perfect recommendation for you. The Whalen Furniture Santa Fe 3-in-1 TV Stand is a combination of wooden and industrial design, without any extreme features, just a simple, elegant and sturdy structure to place your TV.
3 – The couch
The number one piece of furniture as far as the living room is concerned is the couch. It is frequently used, it is designed to help you relax, or allow you to read your books, watch TV or listen to music while you sit back comfortably from the everyday work fatigue.
Depending on the decoration and the rest of the furniture in your living room, you can choose a large sectional couch such as the Oliver Smith Large Brownish Sectional Couch, or aim for a smaller one like the Zinus Contemporary Upholstered 78in Sofa for narrow or tight spaces.
4 – The speakers
Whether you are a music person or a movie person, you need a nice set of speakers in order to be able to listen to your favorite TV shows, movies or music albums. There is a wide variety of speakers to choose from, and it all comes down to your personal preference and taste.
If you like loud, high quality sound I would recommend the Onkyo SKF-4800 2-Way Bass Reflex Floor-standing Speakers. A more compact and affordable choice is the MOKCAO LIFE 30W Bluetooth Speakers, which you can easily connect with all your audio and video devices.

The coffee table is the center of attention in all living rooms, no matter how small or big the size of the room is. They are used by all people in the house, for placing their cellphones, tables and other gadgets, along with their cups of coffee and water mugs.
Coffee tables such as the Sauder 419096 Edge Water Lift-Top Coffee Table have enough storage room to place your books, magazines or stuff that you don’t need floating around. 6 – Laptops
Laptops are an essential tool of the everyday life for most people. They are needed for surfing the internet or working from home, and although they can be used in literally every room of the house, we most commonly use them when resting on the couch of our living room.
For those who like operating Windows systems or for those that are serious PC gamers, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577 Gaming Laptop is one of the best models in the market right now. For Apple fanatics, the Apple 15 Inch MacBook Pro Laptop is your go-to option, although you will need a bigger budget.
7 – The bookcase
The organization of the living room is as important as the decoration. When the combinations of these two aspects is achieved, you can expect great results. Using a bookcase like the Sauder Barrister Lane Bookcase in Salt Oak will allow you to organize your books and save valuable space.
For more compact bookcase solutions, I would recommend you to use a taller and narrower model such as the South Shore Axess Collection 5-Shelf Narrow Bookcase. This way, you can place the bookcase in narrower living rooms with limited space.
8 – Tablets
Tables can either used as a replacement of laptops since they take up less space and they are easier to carry, or they can be used as your e-book readers. There are lots of tables available in the market, in many different price ranges for all types of budgets.
One of the most affordable, although high quality, tablet choices is the Fire 7 Tablet with Alexa which is the perfect gadget for reading e-books. For more applications and higher performances, the Apple iPad 2 is considered one of the best tablets for the price.
9 – The mirrors
Mirrors are one of the most common decorative solutions for living rooms. They are there to help us try clothing combinations by allowing us to view our reflection. They are also used to make small rooms seem bigger, since they provide a sense of opacity.
If you want to cover big areas of empty walls in your living room, the Hamilton Hills Silver Frame Wall Mirror is a great choice. If you prefer floor mirrors, give a try to the H&A Full Length Large Floor Mirror to enhance the elegance of the room.
10 – Portable charger
For those of you ho love your gadgets like me, you should feel the need to keep them charged and ready at all times. A high quality portable charger with a significant amount of good reviews on Amazon, is the Anker PowerCore 10000.
Luckily, the majority of portable chargers comes in very affordable prices, and it is very easy to find high quality products. A charger that I recommend due to its durability, is the RAVPower 22000mAh.
11 – Ottomans
If you want to make your living room even more comfortable, ottomans are the way to go. You can use them both as additional seats in case you have extra guests, or as a coffee table. It all comes down to your personal preference and taste.
The First Hill Rectangular Storage Ottoman is one of my favorite models, because of the large storage space it offers underneath its surface. For a more affordable choice, consider the SONGMICS 43″ Faux Leather Folding Storage Ottoman, which you can acquire for less than $50.
12 – The cellphone stand
This accessory is for those that like taking care of their smartphones. In order to avoid damaging or causing scratches to the surface of your cellphone, you should purchase a cellphone stand. They come in very low prices, such as the Lamicall VC-S-US-B Cell Phone Stand.
The designs are countless, for every type of smartphone in the market. They are vary convenient to place on any type of surface, and they somehow manage to make your coffee table look prettier. Among the most durable smartphone stands, is the OMOTON Desktop Cell Phone Stand.
13 – Pillows
The easiest way to make your couch more comfortable for your back, is by throwing a bunch of soft pillows on it. Additionally, as far as the living room is concerned, you can use them as floor seats if the furniture is not enough.
There are large cushions like the Cotton Craft Floor Pillow, which are ideal for living room floor decoration, and smaller pillows such as the Blazing Needles Square Floor Pillows for your sofa.
14 – Power strip
This gadget is ideal if you live with one or more roommates with which you usually share the living room. If you have a number of devices that you need to recharge, you should seriously consider trying a power strip.
For large numbers of devices, it would be ideal to acquire a big power strip such as the Belkin BE112230-08 12-Outlet Power Strip, which can handle several devices at once. A more portable power strip choice, is the Portable Power Strip by Ntonpower for your travels.
15 – The clock
Clocks have always been an essential accessory of most living rooms. Apart from a decorative choice, they are also a very helpful tool, as they allow us to stay alert with our appointments and tasks.
Modern clocks like the SVINZ 3 Alarms Dementia Clock do more than that, providing also information about the date or time of the day. If you like more conventional clocks, the Plumeet Large Number Wall Clock is a simple and elegant solution.
16 – Wireless headphones
Being able to listen to your music without disturbing the peace of others is a blessing. If you add the fact that you don’t have to mess around with wires, it makes it a beautiful experience. Wireless headphones are a necessity for those who like listening to music in the living room.
Selecting among several different types of headphones, I would suggest the Mpow 059 Bluetooth Headphones, which are both pretty affordable and have a nice clean sound. If you are an earbuds person, the SoundPEATS Magnetic Wireless Earbuds are a must-have.
17 – The ashtray
If you are a smoker, it is a bad habit and you should consider quitting it. If you don’t feel like it, ashtrays may be the perfect accessory for your living room. They are also a nice decoration option for the coffee table.
There all sorts of ashtrays for you to choose from. Two of the most appealing to me as a non-smoker, are the Newness Stainless Steel Modern Tabletop Ashtray, and the more of a unique-piece, the Elephant Tobacco Wooden Ashtray.
18 – Piggy bank
Now that is an accessory I have to seriously consider for my own living room. I end up with several coins every day from change I get after paying for things in the supermarket, and I should really try to save them in a piggy bank for when needed.
If you are like me, you should take a look at the Digital Coin Bank Savings Jar by DE, which is one of my favorites, or a more common-style piggy bank like the Pearhead Ceramic Piggy Bank for throwing in the everyday shopping change.
19 – Rugs
Rugs are the way to go in case you want to make your living room a bit warmer for the winter. There are various designs, although in my opinion you should focus on the thickness and the quality of the rug a little more than on the design.
If you want to enhance the warmness of the room, consider getting a thick shag like the Safavieh Ivory and Grey Moroccan Diamond Trellis Area Rug. In case you want a thinner rug, the nuLOOM Multi Ikat Jute Rug is an excellent choice.
20 – The flash drive
Last but not least, it is more than likely that you want to transfer your music, videos and other files from one device to another. Having a flash drive is the easiest and most convenient way to do so, without messing with wires or the internet.
Of course, the market is flooded with quality flash drives. The two different flash drives that I prefer to use are the Amazon’s Choice SanDisk Cruzer CZ36 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, and the more affordable Samsung 32GB BAR (METAL) USB 3.0 Flash Drive if 32 GBs of space are enough for you.
