So you’ve decided to finally start planning out your small bedroom furniture. Great choice, you know, the last thing you want is to end up designing the place the way you hate it. And that’s just the way it is with many of us. But don’t despair, there are some simple ways to keep your planning as streamlined as possible.
Before you even think of purchasing anything, figure out the dimensions of your room first. If you have a rather large bedroom, then you can probably handle a larger desk. If you have a smaller room, you’ll probably be able to get by with a smaller desk. Once you’ve figured out the scale of your room, you can focus on finding the perfect piece of furniture to make your space work for you. Of course, if your room is already decorated, then you’ll probably need to buy a new bed to make it feel complete.
But how should a desk to be placed in a small bedroom? In general, a bed is usually placed on one side of the room, with a chair or two on the other side. You should also have a TV on one side of the room, and a game console or bookshelves on the other. Keep in mind that if you’re going to go with a bed, then you’ll probably need to bring in a dresser or chest of drawers as well. It doesn’t need to be anything extravagant, just make sure it looks well-used and organized.
When shopping for a desk for a small bedroom, make sure you get something that doesn’t take up a lot of floor space. You don’t want to fill up the entire room with stuff, but at the same time, you don’t want the space to be so cramped that it feels like a prison cell. Look for pieces that have storage areas underneath, and cabinets above. If there are doors on the top, that’s another plus.
When it comes to choosing furniture for a small bedroom, you also need to be mindful of the “balance” of the room. As mentioned before, you don’t want the room to feel overcrowded, so try and avoid anything that takes up more than half of the bed. Also, if you choose a desk with drawers, make sure they’re the same height as the rest of the furniture in the room. If you have a futon mattress on the floor, for example, put the desk across from the foot of the bed, on the same level. This will make things more visually balanced.
So where should a desk be in a small bedroom? The answer is that it depends. If you’ve shopped around carefully, you should end up finding a desk that fits well into your space. You can get a smaller desk with more storage, or you can get a larger, fully-equipped desk. Whichever you choose, it should be a sturdy desk that you can use to its fullest extent, and that you’ll be comfortable sitting at for hours at a time.
